Wells Co. Mentoring Partnership

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

The mission of Wells Co. Mentoring is to strengthen our young people by providing them with caring, positive relationships.   Mentoring is simple.  It is caring, being yourself and spending consistent time (about an hour a week) with a young person.  It’s so simple that it is making a difference, one life at a time.  Mentors are not there to “fix” their youth or solve their problems, but to simply be a friend.  Become involved in one of the most effective prevention efforts and help today’s youth become tomorrow’s leaders - Be a mentor!

Community Volunteer Program

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

The St. Aloisius Community Volunteer Program is designed to reach out to others and make a positive difference in our community.  Volunteers assist in a variety of areas, such as providing transportation to and from medical appointments, assisting with light household and daily living tasks, meal preparation and providing social opportunities.  These services allow many people to continue independent living in their own homes, rather than going to a long term care facility.  Each month, one volunteer is selected to be recognized as the volunteer of the month.

National Honor Society Blood Drive

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Every year the Harvey National Honor Society puts together a blood drive at the high school. The goal is to recruit teachers and even students to donate blood. Since blood is a constant need in the hospital it is very important to get as many donaters as possible because many times they will not take certain people’s blood due to low iron and other deficiencies. Having the blood drive at the high school gives students and teachers a chance to give blood during the school day and may even decide to donate on a regular basis. Last year the National Honor Society did a great job spreading the word about the blood drive and had the highest number of donors in years.
