Town Hall Meeting to Address Underage Drinking

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

The St. Aloisius Community Volunteer Program, Sources of Strength, will be sponsoring a Town Hall Meeting, for adults, to address underage drinking on Tuesday, March 11th. The meeting will start with a free supper at City Hall at 6:00 pm, followed by a short presentation at 7:00 pm.

Recent surveys with our youth show that underage drinking is a significant problem. It is real and it is affecting our kids, in our community, our neighborhoods and our homes.

Area youth will have met the week prior to this meeting to address alcohol issues and the suttle (and not so suttle) messages that they receive from society, which says that underage drinking is not only acceptable, but that it is almost expected. As parents, ministers, teachers and other community leaders, we need to show up and support their decision to take a stand against society’s norms. Please participate in this meeting to help empower our young people to make healthy choices about a growing problem that can affect them for the rest of their lives.

For more information, contact Tammy Neurohr at 324-4769 ext. 342 or 324-4700.

Empowered Youth Address Underage Drinking

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

The St. Aloisius Community Volunteer Program and SADD are proud to sponsor “Take It Back”, a project that is intended to empower youth to initiate a movement that will affect the way society views and portrays alcohol consumption. The subtle (and not so subtle) messages that youth receive on a daily basis about alcohol, not only implies that underage drinking is acceptable, but that it is almost expected. Today’s youth and teens are the leaders of tomorrow and they can demand a change!

Jocob Holm, SADD Student Leadership Council, will speak to students, grades 6 through college, at the Harvey High School commons area on March 4th. Free pizza and pop will be served at 6:30 pm with the presentation at 7:00 pm. This is open to Harvey and Anamoose students and college students who are home on spring break are encouraged to attend.

Be empowered! Take control! This is your world! Take it Back!
