The Best Start Is a Head Start!
Early Explorers Head Start is a comprehensive child development program which serves income eligible children ages 3 to 5. The program is child-focused and has the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children without cost to families.
The Early Explorers office is located in Harvey and offers Center and Home-Based services. The preschool classroom operates Monday-Thursday, 8:30am-3:30pm. parents must be working or attending school to be eligible for center-based services. Before and after school child care is available for a fee.
The Early Explorer Head Start Program has three focus areas: Child Development - Classroom, Health and Nutrition, and Parent Involvement. Individual plans are designed for each child to foster intellectual, physical, social, emotional and language growth, providing hands on activities and giving children the opportunity to make choices. Head Start believes children learn through play. Teachers are professionals with education in early childhood development.
Head Star recognizes that every child must be healthy and well-nourished to learn and grow to his or her full potential. Health assessments and early identification of health-related needs ensure each child receives medical, dental, mental health, and nutritional care, including medical, hearing, speech/language screenings and dental exams.
Parents are the most important influence in a child’s development, therefore Head Start encourages parental participation in education and program planning and operating activities.
